Stoke-on-Trent Labour Standing with our communities against Tory austerity
Lauren Davison, Labour’s candidate for the Meir North and Broadway by-election, has laid out her plan to improve local people’s lives.
“After 14 years of Conservative Government, people in Meir and Broadway know it’s time for change. The Labour Party has changed and is back in the service of working people, and here in Meir and Broadway, I am ready to step up to be the community’s hard-working and local Councillor.
“After 14 years of Conservative government, people are struggling to make ends meet. Families are earning less money, and the cost of energy, groceries, and so much else has risen to unaffordable levels. More people than ever are relying on food banks to keep their families fed, and many are afraid to turn on their heating. Labour has a plan to deal with the cost of living crisis. Here in Meir, the Labour Council has begun offering financial MOTs to families to ensure they receive what they are entitled to. A future Labour government would bring down your energy bills by switching on GB Energy, and by ensuring your home is properly insulated with the largest home renovation scheme in living memory.
“People here feel less safe, so I will work with Alastair Watson, Labour’s candidate for Staffordshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, to put more police on our streets and bring back neighbourhood policing so that you feel safe on our streets and in your home.
“Everyone deserves a safe, warm home, so I will work with the Council to make sure our area gets its share of the £117m investment Labour announced in improving conditions in Council properties.
“I will fight for more frequent and reliable bus routes so people can more easily access work, school, and everything else and take advantage of the reduced fares that Labour has introduced. I will also challenge the Council and ensure that they fix our roads and pavements to make your journeys safer and smoother.
“If I am elected, my job will be to improve lives for local people and bring more funding for improvements to Meir and Broadway.”
